Presented by Earshot Jazz Festival.
For more than 30 years, Wally Shoup has pegged a claim-stake on the saxophone vanguard, most recently in collaborations with Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and vaunted improvisers from all over. In Seattle, too, he has found ideal partners, one of whom is Seattle Improvised Music director and piano tearaway Gust Burns. In performance, this Golden Ear-winning pianist and composer assembles elements of classical, jazz, and free-spirited musical experiment. Blistering drummer Greg Campbell and bass virtuoso Reuben Radding complete this dynamic, versatile quartet. Opening will be Gust Burns’ Trio, with Campbell again on drums and Jeff Johnson on bass.
