Pianist-composer Jared Redmond performs works celebrating the centennials of composers Morton Feldman, György Kurtág, and Betsy Jolas, as part of his fall 2026 US and South Korean tour. Jolas’s lush, expressionistically dense dissonances, influenced by Balinese gamelan and Messiaen, contrast with the terse, crystalline miniatures of Kurtág’s Játékok (Games) series – offerings from two major figures of contemporary music still alive and working today. Exploring three different views of the piano in the late 20th and early 21st century, the program culminates in Morton Feldman’s fragile and hypnotic final piano work, Palais de Mari.
Jared Redmond is a pianist-composer from the San Francisco Bay Area, living and working in Berlin. With a repertoire stretching from the 16th century to the contemporary avant-garde, he appears as a piano soloist, free improviser, and composer throughout the US, Europe, and East Asia. In 2025, Jared released his solo album Scintillant, including music by Scarlatti, Antonio Soler, and Pierre Boulez. Recent performances include the Korean premiere of Stockhausen’s Kontakte, concerts of contemporary music at the Intersonanzen Festival for New Music, KM28 (Berlin), silent green (Berlin), University of Houston, The Resnick Passlof Foundation (New York), the Vallejo Symphony, and many others. Later this year, he will give the Asian premiere of Dennis Johnson’s 5-hour minimalist masterpiece November, in his own realization from the composer’s sketches. Until recently, he taught composition and music theory at Hanyang University and Seoul National University.
