Breakfast Calculus is a duo project of Teagan Faran (strings) and Leo Sussman (winds). Based in Ithaca, NY, the nesting pair met while personifying various rare birds in a John Luther Adams piece, and they haven’t stopped squawking and honking together ever since. Dedicated to rambunctiously pluralistic noise-making, Leo and Teagan celebrate life’s simple pleasures – from buttermilk waffles to fundamental theorems – through a scrumptious hodgepodge of partially-derivative music. The duo’s musical domain continuously integrates original tunes, jocular arrangements, and unbounded improvisations. Recent audience choice award-winners at Ithaca’s Old Greeny Fringe Festival and recipients of the New York Women Composers’ Seed Money Grant, they’re equally at home on a concert stage, in a blackbox theater, and in front of a class of second-graders.
Curated by Haley Freedlund for Nonsequitur‘s NonSeq series.
