In a world that demands that we define ourselves with tags and constructed concepts, one can feel constricted by words that box our identity, often, creating separation from each other. What makes us all the same? What makes each one of us unique? This world premiere explores both sides of the human experience and invites you to “undefine” yourself through music, words and images.
With Marina Albero (piano), Omar Wiley (text), Leanna Keith (flute), Heather Bentley (viola), and video artist Blazinspace.
Raised in her native Spain among a traveling musical family, Marina Albero’s music is inspired by her life experiences. Her stay of three years in Cuba studying classical piano and percussion with the great professors Teresita Junco and Damarik Favier while connecting with other students opened up Marina’s playing to an infectious rhythm plane.
Albero relocated to Seattle with her two children in 2014. Over the next ten years, she built a devoted local community through her joyous performances and worked as a piano instructor at Cornish College of the Arts. Her industrious musical output has repeatedly won recognition from Seattle improvised music institution Earshot Jazz, including being twice awarded Musician of the Year and this year’s Record of the Year for “A Nomad of Sound”. Marina is now based in New Orleans where music is taking her to new heights again.
