Jim Knapp and Eyvind Kang’s string orchestra Scrape presents new music featuring Jessika Kenney, guest vocalist. Premieres include Eyvind’s Lady Welby, a piece based on a new algebraically inspired notational system, and three works by Jim: From Burnt Norton, Listening to Reason, and Approaching Yvones. The self-led, democratic orchestra comprises improvising-friendly professional string players with concertmaster Heather Bentley and guitarist Gregg Belisle-Chi. (Video here.)
About
Each month, Nonsequitur and a community of like-minded organizations and artists present ten concerts of adventurous and experimental music in the gorgeous Chapel Performance Space at the Good Shepherd Center (which sits on the traditional homelands of the Duwamish people): contemporary/post-classical composition, free improvisation and the outer limits of jazz, electronic/electroacoustic music, new instruments, phonography, sound art, and other innovative musics.
