an evening of music at the chapel the moon will be in its waning gibbous phase and the sun will set just after 9pm.
an ensemble of Justin Lazar (clarinet), Eric Lanzillotta (moog), John Teske (contrabass), Hanna Broback (violin), Noel Kennon (viola, composition) present a new piece written for the ensemble. “17 limbs of a birch tree. 6 leafs on each branch 3 of them the same color.”
This is a continuation of a series of pieces using ascending prime numbers as a structural feature (11 harmonic scenes framed by a sunset, 13 harmonic weather formations, 7 divides five stones two leafs one longer than the other, 5 streams for trio) this will be the 5th piece in the series. While this is the largest prime number used so far its harmony and instrumentation is quite sparse in contrast to past iterations of the concept. The sound is continuous and uses small collections of notes that unfold over the 17 sections of the piece.
there will be an opening and closing sound. (before and after)
this activity is intended …” to sober and quiet the mind ” … < J.C.>
