Stephen Fandrich

This immersive evening with composer and pianist Stephen Fandrich promises to captivate listeners with its unique fusion of classical depth, jazz sensibility, and adventurous sonic exploration featuring works from his new solo piano album Sweet Water and ephemeral prepared piano improvisations.

The performance is a two part concert that blends evocative and meticulously crafted compositions followed by compelling prepared piano improvisations, using unconventional materials to transform the instrument into a resonant, custom-tuned percussion orchestra.

Fandrich is a Seattle-based composer, piano soloist, and multi-instrumentalist whose work explores microtonal tunings, cross-cultural resonance, and free improvisation. As a solo pianist, he utilizes custom tunings and long-form improvisations to craft deeply restorative sonic spaces. This intentional approach to natural resonance is masterfully captured on his 2026 solo album, Sweet Water, released by Gamelan Pacifica, and embodied in his “Harmonic Throne”—a massive, interactive public sound-bathing instrument tuned to the natural harmonic series, featured at the world famous Oregon Country Fair from 2023 to the present.
